Maple River Chamber of Commerce

Mapleton, MN (August 27, 2018) - At their annual meeting in January, the members of the Mapleton Area Chamber of Commerce voted to change the name of the organization and become the Maple River Chamber of Commerce.

The organization's Board of Directors presented the members with the idea of becoming the Maple River Chamber of Commerce to encompass businesses from neighboring cities, aligning with the Maple River school district. The towns within the Maple River school district include Amboy, Good Thunder, Mapleton and Minnesota Lake.

“The proposed goal of changing the name of the organization to the Maple River Chamber of Commerce is to foster a more inclusive environment among our area businesses,” says Tara Garbes, Maple River Chamber of Commerce President. “Those who do business within each of these four towns also find themselves supporting businesses among each other. We wanted to make sure businesses from Amboy, Good Thunder and Minnesota Lake were provided with the same business resources. We are also hoping this will strengthen the business community within the Maple River footprint,” Garbes continued. Garbes also noted that the former Mapleton Area Chamber of Commerce was always inclusive to businesses surrounding the Mapleton area but the organization’s name may not have indicated that.

The change is expected to occur in stages throughout the remainder of 2018, including a slightly updated logo and marketing propaganda, as well as reaching out to those businesses in Amboy, Good Thunder and Minnesota Lake.

Over the years, charitable gambling has provided a source of funds for many organizations in the community.  Dollars are raised by selling pull tabs, tip board and paddle tickets since 1997 at the Mapleton Municipal Liquor Store.  These funds have allowed the Maple River Chamber of Commerce use of local dollars to support local organizations.
